Rehabilitating degraded watersheds and installing rainwater harvesting systems to improve water access for rural communities.
Water scarcity is a defining challenge for communities in Puntland. This project addresses both supply and management through watershed rehabilitation, sand dam construction, and community rainwater harvesting systems.
Working with local water user committees, HNC has rehabilitated multiple boreholes and constructed sand dams that capture seasonal runoff. Training on water conservation and governance ensures equitable access and sustainable management.
The project also includes reforestation of catchment areas to reduce erosion and improve groundwater recharge.
